Investment in Sackville Canada 150 walkway
01 July 2017
SACKVILLE (GNB) – An investment of $150,000 is being made in the development of a permanent Canada 150 walkway in Sackville’s downtown. It will include six focal points, including some marking the town’s contribution to Canada’s identity.
“We have been celebrating the diversity of our people and our economy, and encouraging residents to get to know our beautiful and historic New Brunswick,” said Memramcook-Tantramar MLA Bernard LeBlanc. “Our investment in this project will enhance Sackville’s downtown while commemorating our nation’s 150th anniversary.”
LeBlanc attended for Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.
The six installations include: two metal benches and a new shelter in Memorial Park; a significant addition to the skateboard park; a plaque recognizing the Boultenhouse Heritage Centre and Anderson Octagonal House; relocating the Sackville Art Wall to the entrance of the Waterfowl Park; a new George Stanley sculpture; and a memorial for George Stanley at the entrance of the Sackville Cemetery and also at his gravesite.
“This project will leave a lasting impression on our residents and visitors as we celebrate Canada 150,” said Mayor John Higham. “I thank the Province of New Brunswick and the Regional Development Corporation for their financial contribution to Sackville and for establishing this important program.”
Funding is provided under the Program for Municipal Development to Commemorate Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Municipalities with populations of more than 4,000 and less than 25,000 were eligible to apply for funding of up to $150,000 for beautification projects to contribute to a vibrant and attractive downtown and to commemorate Canada’s 150th anniversary.

NB: a new skatepark venue here has been an ongoing requested project for many years but has been ignored because the priorities are sadly not the youth's wellness, culture, fitness, fun, freedom .. the current skate park is a joke, a commentary on the incompetence of a local government that refuse to listen to the people who live and work and have families .. pathetic effort; lazy mayor, weak MLA, hopeless 'community' effort.... and as my readers may know the "Town of Sackville" facebook has me blocked/banned from commenting... but judging by the comments by others about this $150K govt funding there are a lot of unhappy campers and rightly so.. I contend the 'management' is completely out of touch and doesn't have a clue how to spend responsibly and set priorities. #Fire Phil Handrahan, #Fire Ron Kelly-Spurles, #Fire Matt Pryde ... way too many being paid well to do absolutely nothing constructive and killing free speech online by townsfolk is unacceptable behaviour lads .. #Cut The Fat Sackville ...
P.S. When the town's tourism manager's wife yells at the top of her lungs at you on a lovely sunny day dog walk to 'get the fuck out of her garden' when you are out photographying flowers at the sidewalk ~ there's truly something rotten in Denmark... does that big university salary household really need more money? I think not. When it comes to common sense around here its as rare as rocking horse shit... Bruce Wark locally does a good job reporting on what's what at the Town Hall check his article recently about the increase in middle management locally over the last few years here .. thanks Bruce.. and thanks Sharon Hicks for keeping an eye on things too.. there are some pretty clever foxes roaming around...
