Small Homes More Practical - "Voice of the Marshes Reporting" with Natalie Donaher & Erica Butler

Sackville resident proposes change to make small homes more practical » CHMA, Voice of the Marshes

"A Sackville resident is asking Tantramar council to change the way they regulate the size of dwellings in the former town.

Right now, Sackville dwellings must have minimum dimensions of 20 feet by 20 feet, which is too wide for buildings to be constructed offsite and transported on provincial highways to their final destination. Natalie Donaher is proposing using the equivalent in area, 400 square feet, for the minimum size requirement, thereby allowing for rectangular-shaped small homes that can be built elsewhere and transported to Sackville.

CHMA spoke to Donaher after Plan 360’s Jenna Stewart presented the idea to Tantramar council at their Monday meeting.

Donaher believes the change she’s proposing would be part of a municipal plan review when Tantramar takes one on, but the affordable housing advocate decided to apply for this change immediately, covering the $1500 application fee out of pocket. “I didn’t think we should wait that long,” says Donaher, “because it seems the housing crisis is much more urgent than that.”

Premier-designate Holt announces transition team

FREDERICTON (GNB) – A transition team has been appointed by premier-designate Susan Holt to assist her in preparing to be sworn in as New Brunswick's 35th premier. The swearing-in of MLAs and cabinet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the legislature.

“New Brunswickers have given us a clear message: it is time to get to work,” said Holt. “The transition team has the expertise and experience in various sectors to ensure an efficient transition, especially around governance and policy objectives.”

The team consists of:

·         Kelly Cain: A longtime provincial civil servant, Cain has served as deputy minister of tourism, heritage and culture; human resources; transportation and infrastructure; and intergovernmental affairs. Since January 2024, she has been chief of staff in the Office of the Official Opposition.

·         Katie Davey: The executive director of the Pond-Deshpande Centre, Davey is a public policy expert and formerly a director of policy and media at the Public Policy Forum in Ottawa.

·         Len Hoyt: Lead partner at McInnes Cooper's Fredericton office, and a former chair of the law firm's board of directors, Hoyt has served on two previous transition teams and as an executive lead of the strategic program review, which preceded the province’s finances returning to surplus in 2017-18.

·         Serge Rousselle: A professor of law at the Université de Moncton and a constitutional expert, Rousselle is a former provincial cabinet minister and member of the legislature.

The transition team’s aim is to ensure that Holt and her incoming MLAs are able to deliver on the issues most important to New Brunswickers, such as health care and affordability.

"The prospect of an electoral implosion has led some Liberal MPs to organize an effort to oust Trudeau as party leader.

CBC News has reported that more than 20 Liberal MPs met in secret and signed a document committing themselves to trying to force Trudeau out of the party leadership.

Three MPs have come forward publicly to say they have signed the letter: Newfoundland's Ken McDonald, Prince Edward Island's Sean Casey and New Brunswick's Wayne Long."

Keep an Open Mind and an Open Heart - Talk to Your Neighbours - Connect in Tantramarshire

I'm a little disheartened to realize that so many people chose not to vote in the provincial election for their MLA in 2024.. why? 61% voter turnout is not a good sign.. 8237 registered Tantramar voters.. 5068 votes were made.. so 3169 voters didn't bother to show up and vote in this election.. as a result we see no change in this riding.. we are "green" again.. please keep talking to each other and having discussions and staying connected.. we need more of that and we need more people to realize that their voices do matter.. always will matter and should never self-censor.. thanks for stopping by the blogger and feel free to comment.  If you haven't explored the Libertarian Party of New Brunswick's platform yet please do so at http://lpnb.ca for the people of N.B.
