My name is Amelia MacDougall Fleming and I am a third-year Geography student from Sackville. Something that I have been a part of at Mount Allison is Divest MTA. I joined in my second year and being a part of the group has taught me a lot. Divest MTA has also really cemented my belief that no one should profit off of the exploitation of people and the planet by investing in fossil fuels. I think it is really important that we hold the institutions that we are part of accountable. I think holding people accountable is how you show that you care about them and you expect them to do good in the world. I love being a Mount Allison student, and I believe that Mount Allison can be better and more socially just with their investments.

MLA Megan Mitton's victory speech included an acknowledgement of her submission to these 'unceded territory' claims [just as rev. John Perkin had done in October 2015 at Mount Allison University during the Gay Pride Event he stated "you are all global citizens on unceded territory" to the crowd of over 200].

You'll also recall Megan's victory was by 11 votes only over Bernie Leblanc.

"Divest MTA" is a militant anti-oil and gas development group on campus at Mount Allison University -- if you have seen people walking around with orange squares pinned to their jackets or backpacks etc. these people support 'unceded territory claims'.  They consider developments involving oil and gas to be racist white supremacy & white colonialsts injuring Canada's native population.

Check out their Facebook page videos some time if you are really curious and listen to the lingo of these youth being taught to hate white europeans [supremicists] for their legacy of being settlers and developers of natural resources.  Its truly shocking to me and its also why some "divest" members tagged me on a post to Naomi Klein calling me "the local white supremicist neo-nazi hyper-conservative" for supporting Canada's oil and gas development .... imagine that?  And you think it is easy being a dissident around this town!? HA!

I've got no intention of supporting 'decolonization' and the 'divest' anti-white movements on campus.  I find these people ignorant about our natural resources development, our economy, and our history involving white settlers to Canada.  I also think they're being dumbed down very badly by this "education" system.

Divest MTA is back!

Yesterday we undertook our first action of the year — a message to new Mount Allison President Jean-Paul Boudreau that we’re serious about fossil fuel divestment, a morally and financially viable shift that must come sooner rather than later.
During a celebration to welcome the new President at the Purdy Crawford Centre, ten members of Divest MTA dispersed among the crowd and chatted with a variety of Mount Allison administrative higher-ups, including members of the Board of Regents Finance Committee, about the ethical imperative of fossil fuel divestment. Hundreds of pamphlets and orange square patches were distributed and many great conversations were had.

Organizers finally approached Dr. Jean-Paul Boudreau with a copy of the IPCC intergovernmental climate report. Our message to him was short and simple: “Welcome! You could be the President that helps Mount Allison divest— this report emphasizes need for structural change, and we hope you will work with us to make this happen here at MTA. Let's meet soon to further discuss.”
Unfortunately it was extremely difficult to get this short message across as organizers were interrupted at almost every word.
The President begged us, quite literally, not to bring politics into his family and community celebration. We responded by saying that climate change is a priority of our community and it is important to us that in celebrating community we fight for its future. He agreed to meet with us soon.

Mount Allison University Decolonization / Indiginize / Divest MTA
