"History

The construction of St. Paul's began in 1856, based on a model brought by the Rt Rev'd John Medley, the First Bishop of Fredericton. Bishop Medley's interest in Gothic Revival architecture, recreating a medieval stone building in New Brunswick wood, and his desire to see the church maintain a visible presence in the midst of an evolving society, are well seen in the building and its location. The Sunday School building was built in 1879 and the Hall in 1963. A 1996 renovation project was able to connect all the buildings with a new entrance.

St. Paul’s Anglican Church is associated with over one hundred churches that Bishop Medley had been involved with either in construction or renovation. His interest in Gothic Revival architecture, recreating a medieval stone building in New Brunswick wood and his desire to see the church maintain a visible presence in the midst of an evolving society are well seen in the building and its location.

St. Paul’s Anglican Church is designated a Local Historic Place for its architecture and for its association with Bishop John Medley."

Hopefully, this iconic and beautiful old historic downtown church never meets the fate of the "Methodist Church" torn down in 2015 [built in 1875] to make way for a number of new apartment buildings by local developer/builder John Lafford [laffordrealty.com].  All the changes in the downtown core can be a bit jarring.

A remaining piece of stained glass from the old Methodist Church entrance doorway was added to the entrance doorway of the new building created by John Lafford.. its a lovely a sunburst design shown below.  Website:  Find Your Dream Home in New Brunswick | Lafford Properties

A beautiful old historic building.. heritage lost .. sorry to see her go but new construction and progress cannot be stopped here.. housing is a priority for the region and John Lafford provides a great amount of shelter for so many.

The Tantramar Landowners Association tracks the changing landscape in our region and has for many years.  We do not accept donations.
