Critical Reflections on Gender Politics w/ Meghan Murphy

Meghan Murphy gives a talk at the University of British Colombia to discuss her view about the current debate over trans identity within the Feminist community.

The talk itself aroused significant pushback from the Trans community who claim that Murphy is Transphobic. We leave that to you to decide.

Recently, Murphy has been at the centre of controversy, being banned on twitter for breaking "ideologically influenced rules" according to Journalist Tim Pool following the misgendering of a trans-individual. She has launched this lawsuit against Twitter which has been described as "the latest test of whether and how Twitter is obliged to uphold free speech, and what duties governments might have to impose that value on corporate social media."

The talk will relate the struggles online between feminist groups and the challenges social media faces with free speech regarding politics.

There will be a lecture followed by a "Change My Mind" allowing anyone who wishes to disagree licence to interact directly with Ms. Murphy's ideas.

The Students for Freedom of Expression neither endorse nor condemn Ms. Murphy's views. We are simply hosting her to arouse debate between students and her Ideas.
