This episode starts with something we didn’t see coming — one of our boats sank overnight right here in St. Joseph’s. It was our smaller 18-foot speedboat, and after a storm rolled through with heavy wind and rain, we woke up to find her gone under.
From that moment on, it was all hands on deck. We kicked off a full recovery mission using whatever gear we could piece together — a bit of bushcraft, a bit of backwoods engineering, and a whole lot of problem-solving. After a long haul and a lot of effort, we finally managed to haul her up onto the beach.
Once we had the boat back, I stripped the motor off and got to work fixing it right here on the island. A couple of days later, she was patched up, floating again, and back in service — less than 48 hours after going under.
But the week didn’t let up. We ran into even more mechanical issues with other equipment, which set us back again just as we were trying to get off the island for a much-needed feed and hay run. Eventually, we made it to town and loaded up on everything the animals needed.
It was one of those weeks that reminds you: out here, nothing’s guaranteed. But with enough persistence, you find a way to keep moving forward.
