Big changes are coming with local government...

According to the white paper recently released on Municipal Reform in New Brunswick, the first task of the new municipality will be to decide on a name for the region. Then comes an election in November 2022 for new representation.
What if the citizens of the region participate by suggesting appropriate names - ones that are inclusive and a new start rather than one that feels like domination and loss of identity. Something relevant to the entire area that brings us closer together, instead of dividing us. I think we can rest assured it will be several generations before the names of Dorchester, Sackville, Aulac, Point de Bute, Westcock, etc disappear from our individual identities, if they ever do.
I'll start - we could formally be known as "The Greater Tantramar Municipality" but casually just "Tantramar". The marshes are a unique and important part of our history and our attraction to the outside world. That name would also include the Acadians who first settled this area and dyked the marshes. We already have a well known Tantramar high school.
Change is coming whether we like it or not. Let's be proactive - and positive.
