Derek Sloan - Conservative Party of Canada Leadership Candidate 2020

On Tuesday, Britain banned the purchase of any new 5G equipment from the Chinese telecom giant Huawei and ordered all Huawei gear stripped from Britain’s networks by 2027.

They joined the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand in freezing out Huawei from their 5G networks, leaving Canada as the only member of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance that has not barred or restricted Huawei from its 5G network.

There are excellent reasons to be alarmed at the prospect of letting Huawei have access to our 5G network.

China’s National Intelligence Law gives the Chinese Communist Party the power to use Huawei’s technology for its intelligence work.

Huawei has helped China earn its reputation for spying, industrial espionage, and international property theft.

Through surveillance and facial recognition, Huawei have also helped the Beijing regime track, detain, torture, and murder people.

My Conservative caucus colleague Pierre-Paul Hus, who is the critic for national security, is absolutely right when he says:

“The fact that Canada is now the only country in the Five Eyes to have not taken action to mitigate the security risk of using Huawei in our 5G network is an abject failure on the Trudeau government’s part to protect our national security.”

The government should announce sooner, rather than later, that Huawei will be banned.

As Prime Minister, I will not allow Huawei 5G in Canada.

Canadians have rightfully recognized that the Chinese Communist Party cannot be trusted, nor can companies like Huawei that exist not to increase profit or shareholder value, but solely to carry out the wishes of the CCP and expand China’s geopolitical influence.

So have all of our allies in the “Five Eyes” intelligence network.

What is Justin Trudeau waiting for?

This is a matter of national sovereignty.

Canada needs a leader who will recognize the Chinese Communist Party as the threat that it is, and who will protect Canadians against it!

Having run as a candidate for the 2018 Ontario Progressive Conservative leadership, I know first hand how important leadership contests are.

I know, from personal experience, that sometimes politicians say one thing publicly just to gain votes, and when push comes to shove, they fold like a cheap suit. (Remember the Ontario sex-ed flip-flop?)

I don’t believe in folding or compromising, especially on matters which affect Canadian families.

Derek Sloan doesn’t fold or compromise either. As his slogan says, he’s “conservative, without apology.”

I trust Derek. He is authentic and genuine. He doesn’t just talk the talk, but he walks it too.

Derek Sloan is a man who has the unshakable conviction and clarity to make our country better.

He is an honest man, who puts his faith, his family, and his country first!

And this is why I’m thrilled to put Derek Sloan at #1 on my ballot. And I hope you do too.

Derek has been the strongest and clearest on a variety of issues which affect Canadian families. Derek is the only candidate committed to:

• the most robust PRO-LIFE plan, with 12 policies;
• repealing C-16 (the so-called “transgender bill”) which threatens free speech and enshrines gender ideology into Canadian law;
• standing up for women’s rights by demanding the Trudeau government release a gender-based analysis of C-16;
• withdrawing Canada from the UN Paris Agreement on Climate Change;
• banning sex-change surgeries for children experiencing gender dysphoria;
• stopping Bill C-8, which bans conversion therapy and seeks to jail parents who talk to their children about gender identity;
• defunding the Planned Parenthood and the radical leftist group LEAF;
• defunding radical green organizations, such as Tides Canada and others;
• defunding the World Health Organization (WHO); and,
• declaring ANTIFA as a terrorist organization.

We deserve a strong voice who will defend Canada against progressively left-leaning ideology.

We deserve a strong voice who will protect Canada’s energy interests and not keep us beholden to global treaties which seek to undermine our economy.

We deserve a strong voice who will protect our freedoms and liberties from those who seek to strip them away.

I am putting DEREK SLOAN #1 on my ballot. I hope you will, too.
