N.B. Power’s CEO is defending the Crown utility’s approach to signing a contract for the Tantramar natural gas plant, telling MLAs that the utility had to move quickly to head off a looming electricity shortfall.

Lori Clark, sounding defiant at times, was responding to a critical report by New Brunswick Auditor General Paul Martin. 

“Standing still was not the best or safest option for New Brunswickers,” she told the legislature’s public accounts committee. “Doing nothing was a risk we were not willing to take on behalf of New Brunswickers.”
