Time capsule from the former Port Elgin Memorial High School opened at reunion » CHMA

"After spending five hours with a jackhammer, Robert McLeod was able to remove the cornerstone of the former Port Elgin Memorial High School and retrieve the time capsule concealed behind it. He then surprised his fellow PEMHS graduates at this year’s reunion, held on Saturday, August 16th, at Port Elgin Regional School on Moore Rd., with the contents. Some of the papers inside had been damaged due to water getting into the metal box through a hole that had rusted out, despite tar being applied around the box in the crevice behind the corner stone. Four newspapers and a list of those from the area who served and died in the two world wars were among the papers discovered. The time capsule will be available for people to view at the Port Elgin Museum."
