"Affirm United/ S’affirmer Ensemble works for the full inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the United Church of Canada and in society. We draw strength and hope from biblical stories of liberation; from the prophetic call to live justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly with God; and from Jesus’ witness to God’s inclusive love.
We’re a voice and a support for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, and we help ministries become truly welcoming safer sacred spaces through our Affirming ministries program. Membership and participation are open to people of all gender identities and sexualities."
Facebook closed group information:
Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble is an organization of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities (www.ause.ca). We are an independent movement within The United Church of Canada. We work for the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex, Two-Spirit, queer and questioning people in the church and in society. We believe that all people are created in the image of God and are unconditionally loved by God. This is a closed group, in order to protect identities and encourage honest conversation. This means you can’t share links. However, many links that appear in this group are also shared on the Affirm United/ S’affirmer Ensemble Facebook page, and can be shared from there. Commitments you make as a member: We try to make this group a safer space for LGBTQQIA2 people and allies. This group is actively moderated by a couple of admins, and if you have a concern about a post, please message Read Sherman or Julie Graham at Affirm. Briefly: we ask that your keep your posts respectful and on-topic, and that you share the space equitably. By joining this group, you agree that you will not use this group to post any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory. You agree to avoid personal insults, attacks and mischievous antagonism (otherwise known as "trolling"). Showing respect: Use respectful language. Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, classist (e.g. poor-bashing) and other oppressive or stereotyping language that degrades marginalized communities is not acceptable. At all. We are very serious about this. Do not post material or comments that are inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, obscene, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy or otherwise in violation of Canadian law. Posting good links: Share good, interesting material freely, and please join the conversation. However: Links to homophobic or transphobic media stories are discouraged, even for “educational” purposes. In some cases they will be removed. Keep on topic: This is an LGBTQQAI and Two-Spirit focused group. Links and posts need to relate to this. Share the space: Limit how often you contribute a new post. For example, five times a day is pushing it. Comment as much as you like, within reason. Consequences: Your conversation, links, and comments make or break this group. So, violating any of the above may result in a warning from an admin. After two warnings, if the problematic behaviour or language continues, you will be removed from the group. We do not like doing this. So please respect these commitments and all will be well. Thank you for joining the community! Members · 985
