Does Halifax's Newest Statue Celebrate A Settler's Colonial History?

On September 22nd, 2018 a new Lebanese Migrant statue on Halifax's waterfront will be unveiled by Bechara Boutros al-Rahi, the Cardinal Patriarch of Antioch. It will celebrate 140 years of the Lebanese Community in Canada. Most were economic migrants coming to the New World for a better life. Would this statue be considered a symbol of Settler Colonialism as their migration to Canada started during the height of the British Empire? Would it be considered offensive to expect the Mi'kmaq People to accept this new symbol of a Settler past? Were the Mi'kmaq consulted before this announcement was made? 

How will the HRM justify this statue to the People of Halifax when they demanded they give-up the statue of their city's founder, Edward Cornwallis? What will the thousands of visitors to the HRM during The Halifax Pride Festival think when they visit Cornwallis Park and find the statue gone? Or the thousands of visitors to Halifax via cruise ships feel when they are told Halifax is ashamed of it's history and is trying to destroy it?

All Canadian's deserve recognition of their history and achievements. Lebanese Canadians have contributed greatly to the prosperity and security of this great nation of ours. Unfortunately the heritage and culture of European-Canadians is under attack by Cultural Marxists. The Edward Cornwallis statue is only one item on a long list of items on the hit list of Social Justice Warriors like Solidarity Halifax and NSPIRG.

Councilor Matt Whitman believes, as most Haligonians do, that the committee was set up to fail or at least make sure the statue will never be displayed in a public space other than a museum.
