Last month, Wantoqo'tikewinu'k (Mi’gmaq Peacekeepers) from across our communities gathered in Miramichi for the first Mi’gmaq Peacekeeper Gathering, held February 23–25.
Over two days, Wantoqo'tikewinu'k came together with partners, leadership, and guest speakers to share experiences, strengthen relationships, and continue building the program that supports our communities.
Discussions focused on wellness and self-care, administration standards, transportation-to-court challenges, and the ongoing development of the Wantoqo'tikewinu'k Manual.
Members of the Mi'gmaq Justice Initiative also joined the gathering to share their knowledge of Gladue Report and Indigenous Court Worker services and to explore how both programs can work together to better support individuals navigating the justice system.
Most importantly, the gathering created space for our Wantoqo'tikewinu'k to connect, learn from one another, and strengthen the important work they do for our people every day!
🪶 Wela’lin to the Wantoqo'tikewinu'k team, Elders, presenters, and partners who made this gathering possible.
MTI is proud to support the important work of the Mi'gmaq Peacekeeping Initiative."
